Burial Shroud (Plashchanitsa or Epitaphios)

The Burial Shroud is a cloth icon depicting the body of Jesus Christ after He has been taken down from the Cross and placed in the tomb. Called the plashchanitsa in Slavonic usage and epitaphios in Greek usage, it is carried and venerated during the services of Great and Holy Friday and Holy Saturday.
