Godparent or Sponsor

A godparent or sponsor is an Orthodox Christian who assists another person’s entrance into the Church at Baptism or Chrismation. The sponsor makes or affirms the baptismal confession of faith and accepts an ongoing responsibility to pray for and encourage the person’s Orthodox Christian life.
