Icon

An icon is a sacred image of Jesus Christ, the Mother of God, a saint, an angel, or an event from Scripture or Church history. Orthodox Christians venerate icons as witnesses to the reality of the Incarnation and the Kingdom of God; they do not worship the wood, paint, or person depicted.
