Prayer Rope (Chotki)

A prayer rope is a knotted cord used to support attentive repetition of the Jesus Prayer or other short prayers. In Russian and other Slavic traditions it is often called a chotki; another traditional form is the leather lestovka. A prayer rope is an aid to prayer, not an amulet or decorative charm.
