Follow the maker's first-burn and wick-trimming instructions to reduce tunneling and soot. Place the candle on a heat-safe surface away from drafts and flammable objects, and stop use when the recommended wax depth remains. Scented household candles are not automatically suitable for liturgical use or a small enclosed prayer corner.
